On Friday I saw that firefighters were conducting controlled burns in the western end of Yosemite Valley. I came back on Saturday at dusk to see if controlled burns were being done again. This time I saw that the burn was unsupervised, so I remained on scene as night fell. This photograph was taken during "Blue Hour" when the sun has fully set and the night sky supplies a blue light. The fire contributes the warm light from below. This scene reminds me of the work of the painter Eyevind Earle. He was the lead artist on some of Walt Disney's movies in the 1950's such as Sleeping Beauty.
