Sonoma County

Sonoma County is bigger than Napa & Marin counties combined and has remote places.

It takes 2 hours to drive from Petaluma (in Sonoma County) to the Sonoma-Mendocino border, so start times for workshops in this area can be earlier. Usual destinations for workshops in this section are west of Sebastopol and north of the Russian River. The workshops in this region tend to focus on mountains, hills, coastline, forests, wildflowers, water features, and back roads.

The Seasons

Fall

Fall is often warm in "Indian Summer". The coast can be sunny and hills yellow until the rains start. The vineyards are colorful, but other trees are displaying colors too.

Winter

Weather can range from sunny to stormy, and can be quite different in different areas of the county. The hills turn green and the rivers and creeks start flowing well. Forests are great locations to photograph at this time of year.

Spring

The hills are green, the creeks and rivers are flowing well, and the wildflowers arrive.

Summer

It rarely rains, the hills turn yellow, and it is an excellent time to photograph the coast.
