Spring Afternoon Photography Workshop in Northwest Sonoma County
Explore & Capture the Remote Beauty of Sonoma County
Saturday, April 18th, 2026 12:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Sonoma County’s wild, untamed landscapes offer some of the most breathtaking scenery in Northern California. This exclusive photography workshop takes you far beyond the usual locations—stretching from the Russian River to The Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve, with stops at Salt Point State Park, and other hidden gems.
Why Join This Workshop?
✔ Diverse Landscapes in One Day – Capture everything from rugged ocean cliffs to rolling inland hills and towering redwoods in a single trip.
✔ Seasonal Beauty & Wildflowers – Spring brings lush green hills and rhododendrons in peak bloom, making this one of the best times to visit.
✔ A Flexible Itinerary for the Best Shots – We adjust based on weather and light conditions to ensure you capture the most compelling images.
✔ Small Group, Hands-On Instruction – Get personalized guidance in a relaxed, supportive environment.
✔ Easy-Access Photography – Most locations are near our vehicles, with minimal hiking required.
Whether it’s sunny and clear or foggy and atmospheric, you’ll learn how to adapt your settings, master composition, and make the most of any light.
What to Expect
📍 Meet & Carpool – Start at my studio or meet at Wild Flour Bread in Freestone for a delicious artisanal start to our journey.
🚗 Scenic Backroads & Hidden Vistas – Our route winds through a remote ridge north of Cazadero, where dense redwood valleys give way to sweeping ridgelines, rolling oak woodlands, and panoramic views of the Pacific. This stretch feels untouched and secluded, with only the occasional ranch or weathered fence line in sight.
🌿 Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve – A springtime spectacle, where a dense coastal forest bursts into bloom with vivid pink and magenta rhododendrons. Depending on the season’s rainfall, the display ranges from a light scattering of flowers to a breathtaking floral canopy.
💦 Coastal Waterfall at Salt Point – A rare waterfall spills over weathered sandstone cliffs into a rocky cove, set against the backdrop of the open ocean—a stunning and rare sight on the Sonoma Coast.
🪨 Sculpted Sandstone at Salt Point – if we have time, we’ll explore the honeycomb tafoni formations, where wind and salt spray have carved intricate, alien-like patterns into the soft sandstone bluffs—a dream for photographers and geology lovers alike.
🌅 Golden Hour & Sunset on the Sonoma Coast – As the light softens, we’ll head south to Goat Rock Beach or another prime coastal location to capture the sunset’s glow over the rugged shoreline.
