This fine art print—captured in Dry Creek Valley—is the very first photograph of wine country I ever offered for sale. The weathered barn, rusted roof, and winding gravel path are all real, rendered with such clarity and character that viewers often mistake it for a painting.
Time and again at art fairs, people would ask, “Is this a painting?” I’d explain that it’s a straight photograph, like most of my work, and invite them to look closely—the texture of the gravel, the detail in the grass, the light on the vines, all unmistakably real. Eventually, I left it off the booth wall just to take a break from the question—only to have people point to other prints and ask the same thing.
This is one of the photographs that started it all. A timeless piece that blends realism with painterly beauty, and continues to fool—and move—the eye.
